When a couple with young children called and said they had bought an “apartment in the sky” they weren’t kidding. Located on the 37th floor with views west and south this newly constructed condo was so sunny we had to wear sunglasses during our early design meetings!
The three-bedroom, three and half bathroom home required some architectural modifications which were skillfully executed by our friends and frequent collaborators at Aerial Design and Build. The decorating, which follows our formula to achieve the “laid back luxe” style we are known for includes the perfect mix vintage and new, deep colors in textures amazing to the touch, beautiful lighting, sculptural pieces, and ceramics.
The primary bedroom features luxurious jewel-toned upholstery and custom silk carpets that are juxtaposed with a handmade ceramic ceiling fixture and warm millwork to add an element of earthiness to the space. The children’s bedrooms were designed to grow with the kids – not too sweet but not too grown up – with a playful mix of color and pattern.
When it came to the selection of art we called on expert art advisor Aileen Agopian who masterfully assisted the young couple with the selection and purchase of key modern art pieces including a neon Tracey Emin, a large-scaled Marilyn Minter and a Jacob Hashimoto to name a few. The result is a sophisticated, warm, and family-friendly apartment.
